Please read below to find out more about cosmetic breast augmentation in London & Essex.
Professor Ben Miranda performs breast augmentation cosmetic surgery in London & Essex. The information below relates to breast augmentation surgery or breast enlargement surgery with implants.
Your breast enlargement can be achieved by placing breast implants either under the breast (subglandular), under the chest wall muscle (submuscular), or using a combination of both techniques (dual-plane breast augmentation) to achieve a breast augmentation; in almost all cases, the breast implant is inserted via a 4-5cm scar placed in the inframammary fold under your breast, however, other options include insertion via incisions made around the areola or via the armpit.

Is Breast Augmentation Surgery, Breast Enlargement Surgery or Breast Implant Surgery Safe | London & Essex?
While breast augmentation surgery in London & Essex is one of the safest cosmetic surgery procedures available, careful breast implant selection and breast implant placement are very important to achieve the best cosmetic breast augmentation outcome for you, and to minimise the potential risks of breast augmentation surgery. All women have different breast types, shapes and sizes, and no two breasts are exactly the same; this makes breast implant selection an art form and Professor Ben Miranda will take great care when measuring your breasts to help you select the breast implant and placement that is right for you. After your first consultation, Professor Miranda will offer you a cooling off period and a second consultation; breast augmentation surgery in London & Essex is a lifetime commitment and often requires revision surgery in the future. There is no need to ‘rush’ into your breast augmentation or breast enlargement surgery and you should be 100% confident in your surgeon and with the facts that surround the breast augmentation surgery; you should therefore walk away from any breast augmentation surgeon or cosmetic surgery company that try to convince you to have breast augmentation surgery without a cooling off period and an opportunity to rediscuss your breast augmentation or breast implant surgery and requirements.
There is no proven causal link with breast implants and breast cancer, however, if you are over the age of 30 years old and have a strong positive family history of breast cancer, it may be better to have a pre- and post-operative ultrasound or mammogram as a baseline test. Breast implant associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare type of lymphoma involving cells of the immune system that has recently been associated with macrotextured implants; these have now been taken off the market. Although BIA-ALCL is very rare complication of breast augmentation with implants, with a previusly reported risk in the region of 1:25000, patients should be aware that it may present as late redness and swelling of the breast; the treatment is implant and capsule removal. Other types of breast cancer may also occur such as BIA-SCC, however, these are also very rare.
What are the Potential Complications of Breast Augmentation Surgery, Breast Enlargement Surgery or Breast Implant Surgery | London & Essex?
Many of the potential complications of breast augmentation surgery will be minimised by Professor Miranda’s clinical experience and meticulous surgical technique, and careful post-operative follow-up in the dressing clinic. Potential complications of breast augmentation surgery may include infection (if this is resistant to antibiotics you will need your breast implants removed), pain, bleeding and haematoma (this usually occurs within the first 24 hours following breast augmentation surgery and would require a return to theatre to stop any bleeding), breast sensation changes, wound breakdown, asymmetry, implant rupture, gel bleed, implant wrinkling and capsular contracture (10% at 5 years, the body creates a fibrous reaction around the implant that may become painful or distort the shape of the breast).
