What is Breast Reduction Surgery | London & Essex?
Professor Ben Miranda performs breast reduction surgery in London & Essex (Chelmsford and Southend). Breast reduction surgery helps to reduce the size of large breasts, while reshaping and lifting them at the same time. In the NHS, breast reduction surgery may be accessible if you suffer with backache, shoulder/neck pain, skin rashes or infections under the breasts. Breast reduction surgery may also be performed privately even if you do not suffer with these symptoms. Professor Ben Miranda uses a superior-medial pedicle technique in most cases, maintaining the blood supply to the nipple at the same time; this will leave you with an ‘inverted T-shape’ scar. Post-operatively you will have dressings along your incisions, and, in smaller breast reductions (<500g) you likely will not need to have a drain inserted temporarily or need to stay in hospital overnight if you do not want to, however this may not be the case for larger breast reductions. Professor Ben Miranda will discuss the breast reduction surgery options with you carefully to help you decide what is best for you. Post-operatively you will find that your breasts remain swollen and tight; this is normal and usually completely settles by around 3 months following your surgery by which time your breasts will have ‘relaxed’ close to their final position.
Many of the potential complications of breast reduction surgery will be minimised by Professor Miranda’s clinical experience and meticulous surgical technique, and careful post-operative follow-up in the dressing clinic. Potential complications of breast reduction surgery may include infection, pain, bleeding and haematoma (this usually occurs within the first 24 hours following surgery and would require a return to theatre to stop any bleeding), inability to breastfeed, loss of nipple sensation, nipple loss/necrosis (rare), fat necrosis, asymmetry, not achieving your desired cup size, wound breakdown (often occurs at the T-junction and requires dressings only).
