What is Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery | London & Essex?

Link to before and after imagery of nipple inversion surgery in London and Essex

Professor Ben Miranda performs inverted nipple correction surgery in London Harley Street & Essex (Chelmsford & Southend). Nipple inversion is very common and occurs when the nipple points inwards (an inverted nipple) rather than outwards (a projected nipple); in many cases patients are born with inverted nipples. Inverted nipple correction surgery in London & Essex can therefore be an effective way of improving the cosmetic appearance of nipple inversion, by making them point outwards. While some patients with nipple inversion may be unable to breast-feed, some may also find that they have less self-confidence because of their inverted nipples; inverted nipple correction surgery can therefore also help to restore confidence in appropriate patients.

How is Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery Performed | London & Essex?

Professor Ben Miranda performs inverted nipple surgery in London Harley Street & Essex. The nipple inversion repair technique required depends on the severity or grade of the inverted nipples. Grade I inverted nipples point inwards but can easily be pulled out; when inverted nipple surgery is required, a ‘milk duct sparing’ nipple inversion repair technique may be possible, where the nipple is pulled out, incisions are made around the base, the milk ducts and tissue are stretched, and sutures are inserted to keep the nipple projected and in place. Grade II inverted nipples may also be pulled out, however they invert again quickly, and Grade III inverted nipples often cannot be pulled out at all. Grades II and III inverted nipples often have shortened milk ducts and extra fibrous bands; as such, ‘nipple duct sparing’ inverted nipple repair may not be possible to achieve, as the milk ducts may need to be surgically divided to be able to pull the inverted nipple out and maintain its projection. Following inverted nipple surgery, a special dressing is applied, to keep the nipple projected or ‘pulled out’ and this is usually kept in place for 1 week following surgery.

What are the Complications of Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery | London & Essex?

Many of the potential complications of inverted nipple correction surgery will be minimised by Professor Miranda’s clinical experience and meticulous surgical technique, and careful post-operative follow-up in the dressing clinic. Inverted nipple correction surgery is considered to be a very safe cosmetic surgery procedure; however, potential nipple inversion repair complications include infection, bleeding, scarring, asymmetry, numbness, loss of nipple erectility and an inability to breast-feed in the future. With regards to breast-feeding it is also important to bear in mind that some women are unable to breast-feed successfully, even with non-inverted nipples, and nipple inversion in itself may also predispose to being unable to breast-feed.
