Professor Ben Miranda completed a Plastic Surgery Research PhD in 2011, supervised by Professor David Sharpe OBE. Aspects of his PhD research work were front-cover featured by the British Journal of Dermatology. Professor Ben Miranda has over 120 peer-reviewed research publications and presentations at national and international level, 2 best-selling surgical textbooks and over 20 academic prize awards and distinctions. He is therefore in a position to be able to evaluate the highest quality of medical evidence, research and advances in treatment, and offer the best possible care that is tailored to the unique requirements of every patient that he treats. 

Professor Ben Miranda is the St Andrew's Anglia Ruskin (StAAR) Research Group Lead and a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine; this research group was founded in 2012 and has since achieved over 400 publications, as well as successfully supporting MD and PhD students. StAAR currently has 27 consultant members, as well as research nurses, hand therapists and physiotherapists, with research interests in breast and microvascular techniques, burns and trauma, hands and skin cancer, head, neck, cleft lip and palate. 

Professor Ben Miranda supervises Plastic Surgery trainees, organises and is regularly invited to participate in a variety of national and international surgical training and education teaching courses. He is an official tutor for the BSSH British Hand Diploma (University of Manchester); this is a higher sub-specialty qualification for Plastic and Orthopaedic Surgeons wishing to undertake a career in Hand Surgery. Professor Ben Miranda is also a Visiting Senior Clinical Lecturer and Educational Supervisor at Anglia Ruskin University School of Medicine; he is therefore also responsible for the education and training of undergraduate medical students.
